Background
Even if they can fly, are powered by liquefied garbage and come standard with autopilot, twenty years from now, people will still own and operate personal vehicles. Thus, we will still need insurance from a reputable company with great customer service. That’s why Allstate is asking you to imagine life in the year 2030…what will you be eating, wearing, driving and, most pertinently, how will insurance work? How will we use and interact with insurance products, services and processes? For example, in the film Minority Report, billboards scan people’s retinas and advertise to them based on who they are. Now imagine that not for billboards, but for insurance.
Project Details
This project will be worth a total of $15,000 and will consist of three phases so there’s a place for all of you to participate, regardless of your skill set.
IMPORTANT NOTE–ALLSTATE IS NOT LOOKING FOR ADS, THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO CREATE ENGAGING SHORT FILMS AND INNOVATIVE IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE OF INSURANCE.
PHASE 1: IDEA – In 140 characters or less, tell us your Idea for a futuristic function of insurance. Remember, this is not some elaborate blueprint, it is a simple creative insight into what insurance might be like 20 years from now. The goal here is to merge the practical with the fantastical and generate some brilliance. Winning Ideas will receive a 5% residual payment of every winning Story and Video they are used to generate.
PHASE 2: STORY – In 500 characters or less, select one of the five winning ideas and incorporate it into the story of this sci-fi short. Again, this is not a detailed script, but a synopsis of the basic plot points the video should follow. Feel free to use David Mamet’s dramatic story paradigm for structure (i.e., Once upon a time…and then one day…and just when everything was going so well…when just at the last minute…and they all lived happily ever after. Read more here). Don’t get hung up on details, tell us big chunks of story. Winning Stories will receive a 5% residual payment of every winning Video they are used to generate.
PHASE 3: VIDEO – Select one of the 5 winning Stories and make a 30 to 90 second futuristic Science Fiction Short based upon it. You can, but do not have to literally interpret every element of the Story. Think of it as a framework that you should work within. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT. Be creative, capture the essence, know the goal, and have fun with it.

Guy sprints from house to car. Palms the car door open as house locks & arms security system, toaster & other appliances power down: house “hibernates.” House & car are networked, know the routine. Car’s “risk meter” display panel changes based on speed, traffic, location-based accident stats, heart rate, etc. Man speeds, car says: “Slow down; just take this faster route.” Guy arrives, turns shirt button to adjust color, upgrades holo-shoe style, leaves car (it parks itself), meets date on time.

House with sass
A man comes into view looking very annoyed. His wife walks up to him and asks him what’s wrong. The man states there is a problem with the house. The wife asks if it’s the termites ,female voice says “That’s just the start of it!” Husband shows more annoyance and tells his wife that the problem with the house is that it is a bit TOO helpful in reminding him of the problems he must fix. House then tells the husband he should be fixing that faucet to prevent water damage instead of complaining.

Harry is an Allstate Holographic Agent. He touches peoples lives everyday. He’s a real person, but he can appear next to anyone when he is summoned by a client or when alerted to an insurance incident. Harry drops in when you have an auto accident, or when there is damage to your vehicle. Having Harry by your side is so comforting he sometimes gets calls from people just to talk/pal around. Funny how people forget it’s just his image next to them, he works remotely & projects his image and voice
