FAQ

How do I get started?

You will need access to a video camera and computer with editing software.  Search online at places like Ebay.com, Amazon.com or BestBuy.com. A simple $200-$300 camera is good enough to get started. Your computer will likely need a Firewire cable port too. If you do not have one, then buy one for your computer. They run about $40. Lastly, you will need simple editing software. Most computers come with either Microsoft Movie Maker or FinalCut. For filmmaking advice, visit MediaCollege.com.

If you can’t afford to buy the gear above, then you will need to get more creative. Ask family and friends if they have anything you can use. Many towns and cities have community television stations, and gear that is free for the public to use. Ask your town if they have one. If you need a free video editing system, then try JumpCut.com.Top

I have an idea for a film, but I need actors. Where can I find some?

Use Craigslist.com – put a post on the ‘gigs” section.  Or attend some local plays and ask the actors there if they might be interested in helping. Many actors are eager to advance their resumes. The contests on Films4Prizes give them a great chance to improve their acting, get great exposure, and possibly win prizes (we recommend sharing prizes with your actors). Top

Where can learn how to edit a film?

There are many instructional videos on YouTube.com. Whether you need to learn more about editing, lighting, or filming – YouTube likely has some great tutorials. Top

How do I find out if I’ve won a contest?

Check the website of the company that has hosted the contest.  If you do not remember the URL, then search for the contest under the “Archive” section of Films4Prizes.com. There you will find a list of old contests. Most companies will contact a contest winner by phone or email too. Top

I know about a contest which isn’t listed on Films4Prizes.com, what should I do?

Please email us at Films4Prizes@Gmail.com. We’re always happy to add new contests to our website. Top

My company wants to host a film contest. How can we make it a success?

It’s important to offer many prizes.  We recommend a $10,000 first prize and offering a $5-10 gift for the first 100 entries. This will greatly increase the response rate to your contest. People like to win stuff, even if it’s not super valuable.

Then  market your film contests!  Be sure to list your contest on Films4Prizes.com to gain maximum exposure.  Announce the contest 45 to 60 days before the deadline.

Furthermore, we recommend providing free logos, and music for people to use in their entries. It makes it possible to people to enter the contest, even if they cannot buy your product.
