Welcome to the ANCESTOR user-generated-content video contest. The goal of this contest is to help promote the hardcover release of ANCESTOR, a horror thriller novel written by New York Times best-selling author Scott Sigler (June 22, 2010, Crown Publishing).
WHAT KIND OF MOVIES CAN YOU MAKE?
You name it. Live action, machinima, animation, claymation, animated comic book, GCI — any format that lets you follow the scripts listed in the table below. We encourage you to use the scripts as you see fit. Yep, you have creative control. We know how hard it is to make a movie on limited resources, so modify things as you need in order to finish it. As long as you include our intro and outro (available for download at right), and your movie meets YouTube’s upload requirements, the movie qualifies.
HOW DO YOU ENTER & HOW DO YOU WIN?
- Download Intro & Outro video segments: See official contest to download. You must use those to start and finish your video.
- Download a script from the table below: Pick the scripts you like, shoot them any way you choose.
- Upload the movie to your server:
- Email a link to your movie to contest@scottsigler.com : We must receive entries by June 14, 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.
- We then upload your video to Scott’s YouTube channel.
- We send you the YouTube URL.
- You promote your video URL: You send it to friends, family, enemies, that dude from third-grade English class, you get them all to watch and spread the word. Use social media, embed, link, whatever works for you.
- On July 7 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time, we note the view count for each film.
- The five movies with the most views at that time are the finalists.
- The finalist movies are judged by our esteemed panel of whoop-ass judges (see a list of judges on the left-hand side of this page). They all vote based on whatever parameters they like, whatever strikes their fancy.
- On July 14, we announce the grand prize winner.
- Then we send y’all your winnings!

CONTEST DEADLINE: June 14, 2010, 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time
We need your finished videos by that time. However, on May 31, we will post all qualifying videos we have received, and after that post each qualifying video as it comes in. That means if you get your flick done before June 14, you have a competitive advantage! Remember that the five finalists are all about view count, so a head start on your competition can help.
Our finalists winners will be decided on July 7 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time, based on total view count.
Our grand-prize winner will be named on July 14, based on the voting of the panel of judges.
